Do you work with children who:

Is it possible that the child you are working with suffered complex trauma and dissociation and that nobody has yet identified this as the problem of the child?

At her practice, Dr Renée Potgieter Marks discovered that in this population of children more than 85% displaying such behaviours, scored positive for PTSD symptoms and in the clinical range for dissociation. In training, consultations and supervision across the world, she has found that many therapists are actually working with this population of children, without the necessary training and guidance.

You can now access training on how to successfully assess and treat children with complex trauma and dissociation. Many children display high levels of anxiety, aggression, violence, running away, avoidance, shutting down, with significant problems at school, in their attachments and/or peer relationships.

By assessing children with these symptoms for complex trauma and dissociation, you might be able to either, exclude these as a problem and continue the usual treatment, but you may find in many cases, children displaying these behaviours are merely expressing unprocessed trauma and dissociation.

What this training will enable you to do

This training will enable you to:

  • access the internal world of the child that suffered complex trauma;
  • enable the child to make sense of their dissociative experiences;
  • apply effective techniques to process trauma and integrate dissociative states.

Dissociation in Children & Adolescents: Assessment & Treatment or ‘DCAT’ for short, is an extensive Hybrid E-learning course, on how to assess and treat children and adolescents, who suffer from complex trauma and dissociation. The course is split between 80% online learning, which includes interaction via secure web conferencing and the remainder, is 2 individual days on-site as classroom training.

The course carefully looks at various areas of assessment and treatment; although not exhaustive, there is over 40 hours of video covering a wide variety of treatment scenarios, theory and discussion of clinical cases.

Dr. Renee P Marks will run quarterly group supervision sessions with all the delegates, as the course requires the participants to start working with a child, or present a case on a child they are already working with.

The online material also acts as a reference database that can be revisited any time during the course. This helps to brush up on knowledge and understanding, as well as get updates on new research and the latest literature on child dissociation.
